Database Architect

Regular Full-Time



Design strategies for enterprise database systems and set standards for operations, programming, and security. Design and construct large relational and NoSQL databases. Integrate new systems with existing warehouse structure and refine system performance and functionality.




Position reports to Development Manager.


The incumbent will be expected to work independently using technical judgment.

  • Develop and document database architectures (relational and NoSQL).
  • Develop database architectural strategies at the modeling, design and implementation stages to address business or industry requirements.
  • Collaborate with system architects, software architects, design analysts, and others to understand business or industry requirements.
  • Create and enforce database development standards.
  • Demonstrate database technical functionality, such as performance, security and reliability.
  • Design database applications, such as interfaces, data transfer mechanisms, global temporary tables, data partitions, and function-based indexes to enable efficient access of the generic database structure.
  • Design databases to support business applications, ensuring system scalability, security, performance and reliability.
  • Develop data models for applications, metadata tables, views or related database structures.
  • Develop load-balancing processes to eliminate down time for backup processes.
  • Develop or maintain archived procedures, procedural codes, or queries for applications.

Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job will be considered.



Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science / Management Information Systems, or equivalent work experience.




Minimum 6 years experience.




To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:


Knowledge of:

  • Design and development of large database systems (20TB+)
  • Database architecture and administration (relational and NoSQL)



  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008/2012/2014/2016
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong T-SQL development
  • Query optimization and performance tuning
  • SSIS and ETL processes
  • SSAS
  • Experience with Hadoop, Machine Learning, Python and R is a plus


Ability to:

  • Develop, design, or create new applications, systems, or products
  • Optimize queries to perform on large databases
  • Review and improve execution plans
  • Troubleshoots issues and resolves errors
  • Effectively communicate ideas
  • Multi-task, prioritize, coordinate projects and meet simultaneous deadlines
