    The Hadoop Administrator Position is an exciting new opportunity to participate in our Big Data projects. The administrator will work closely with Engineering and Development teams to implement and support the Hadoop Infrastructure. The administrator will require to stay abreast of the continual evolution of technology and an understanding as to how to leverage them to fit customer needs.

    What You’ll Be Doing
    At Solera, we believe in providing clarity and focus to what our volunteers are responsible for – their mission.  The 80’s, as we call them at Solera, are the employee’s priorities associated with their role or mission.  The mission 80’s for this role are:

    1. Main Responsibilities for Hadoop design principals, cluster connectivity, security and the factors that affect distributed system performance
    2. Responsible for administration of Hortonworks Hadoop infrastructure including performance tuning
    3. Responsible for Hadoop related technology stack and all the peripheral supporting tools

    Additional resposibilities for this role:

    • System related Tasks
    • Open Source/Tools/Platform Support
    • Troubleshooting all related systems
    • Supporting the BI tools


    Are You Qualified?

    • Overall years of experience expected to be over 5 years with at least 2+ years of experience in Hadoop administration and related technology stack
    • Strong knowledge and experience in supporting Linux environments and open source tools/platforms
    • Strong understanding of Hadoop design principals, cluster connectivity, security and the factors that affect distributed system performance
    • Experience in implementation and ongoing administration of Hortonworks Hadoop infrastructure including performance tuning
    • Experience in Hadoop and related technology stack – HDFS, YARN, Spark and MapReduce
    • Strong understanding of Hadoop design principals, cluster connectivity, security and the factors that affect distributed system performance.
    • Experience in maintaining, proactively identifying, troubleshooting and resolve systems issues
    • Determining the correct hardware and infrastructure for your cluster
    • Prior experience in connecting Hortonworks clusters with BI stack such as Microstrategy and Qlik is a plus
    • Experience in setting up new Hadoop users. Setting up Linux users, setting up Kerberos principals and testing HDFS, Impala, SOLR, access for the new user
    • Excellent communication & inter-personal skills – Collaboration with the infrastructure, network, database, application and data teams
    • Collaborating with application teams to install operating system, Hortonworks and other products updates, patches, version upgrades when required.
    • BS degree in Computer Science, related technical field, or equivalent work experience
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Excellent problem-solving skills
    • Excellent technical documentation skills
    • Self-motivated, delivery focused with the ability to work independently where required.
    • Committed and have a strong sense of ownership.


    • Knowledge of security and authentication systems in Hadoop technology stack is desired
    • Knowledge of software development or scripting skills
    • Knowledge of Ambari for managing your clusters (aggregated logging, Configuration management, resource management, reports, alerts, and service management)
    • Support disaster recovery and business continuity practice
