    This NOC Engineer will be the technical expert for Solera monitoring toolsets, helping the organization through a transformation including process and technology. The individual hired for this role will partner across IT SME groups to ensure reliability to Solera’s most critical systems. This is a hands-on technical role that contributes to the success of by managing enterprise monitoring of critical and non-critical system layers through the implementation of various measuring and monitoring systems. This position is a strong advocate and catalyst for continual process and technology improvements related to all aspects of monitoring including Network, System, and Application Performance, Capacity, Health, Availability, etc. This role will provide support for the enterprise IT monitoring capabilities by maintaining, managing, and improving various management tools and reports which seek to proactively identify and escalate issues and problems across team boundaries.

    What You’ll Be Doing

    At Solera, we believe in providing clarity and focus to what our volunteers are responsible for – their mission.  The 80’s, as we call them at Solera, are the employee’s priorities associated with their role or mission.  The mission 80’s for this role, are:

    • Improve monitoring tools and dashboards
    • Ensure all alerts create tickets within our ITSM tools
    • Perform Tier 1 and 2 trouble shooting and provide real-time updates in the ITSM tool


    Additional responsibilities of the role include:


    • Design, re-engineer, implement, manage & develop monitoring tools, such as Solarwinds, Nagios, etc. that will be used to support monitoring systems heart rate and capability. ICINGA and Nagios expertise is given priority.
    • Help promote ICINGA as the single view for all monitoring systems.
    • Setup and utilize monitoring tools, to discover and monitor a large IT infrastructure for potential problems. Problems could include network performance, power, malware intrusion, server faults, bandwidth capacity, storage capacity, server disk utilization, middleware, application performance, as well as memory and processor utilization.
    • Work with the Network/Infrastructure/Monitoring teams to develop and advocate for standard procedures to respond to fault, power, capacity or utilization alerts.
    • Help configure alerts to populate incidents within ITSM tool ServiceNOW.
    • Develop robust reporting performance analysis from various performance reports for internal and external distribution.
    • Proactively identify system deficiencies and assist in root cause analysis of system issues to minimize impact and future occurrence. Escalate issues as warranted.
    • Review performance and capacity data and perform trend analyses to detect present and potential problems.
    • Assist in maintaining standard SLA’s, OLA’s and system/application thresholds
    • Perform analysis of system data and analysis opportunities for technical and operational improvements.
    • Execute initiatives to reduce failures, defects and improving overall performance.
    • Utilize industry resources to identify new and innovative techniques, automation and best practices.
    • Contributes to technical presentations to educate teams on how to improve performance and capacity.
    • Ability to make timely recommendations to effectively solve problems, using independent judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulations, and/or law.
    • Ability to work in a team/group setting and collaborate by providing transparency in performance results.
    • Must be available to work an on call rotation to support Major Incidents 7x 24. Some evening and/or weekend work as necessary based upon workload.



    Are You Qualified?

    • Required A High School or GED
    • Preferred An Associate's Degree in a related field or graduate from a technical school in information systems or information technology or related field
    • Preferred A Bachelor's Degree in a related field

    Candidate Experience:

    • Required 4+ years of experience in managing IT incidents or problems, or working with customers in a service desk environment or other IT support organization
    • Demonstrated experience in NOC environment or IT Engineer role

    Candidate Skills:

    • Advanced Demonstrated interpersonal/verbal communication skills
    • Advanced Demonstrated customer service skills
    • Demonstrated organizational skills
    • Ability to multi-task
    • Required Intermediate Microsoft Word
    • Required Intermediate Microsoft Outlook
    • Required Intermediate Microsoft Excel
    • Preferred Intermediate Other High-level knowledge of networking, Windows and UNIX operating systems, databases, application development
    • Preference given to individuals with ServiceNOW experience

    Licenses and Certifications:
    A license in one of the following is required: 

    • Preferred Other ITIL v3 Foundations certification
    • Preferred CompTIA Certified in any discipline or ability to obtain within the first 3 months of employment
    • Preference given to individuals who have Microsoft, Networking, VMWare, or other enterprise certification(s).

    Technical Skills:

    • Network and System documentation and mapping experience, using Visio
    • Creating standard and customized alerts for Enterprise IT Monitoring solutions.
    • Building and developing application performance monitoring
    • Demonstrated ability to deliver threshold guidance for alerting
    • Advanced experience with Solarwinds monitoring software, preferred
    • Advanced experience with Nagios monitoring software, preferred
    • Advanced experience with ICINGA monitoring software, preferred
    • Working knowledge of network protocols and routing, network, server, and host operating systems
    • Ability to present complex data to groups of internal and external customers in a clear and concise manner
    • Advanced Network or Server Performance Analysis and debugging in a global environment Experience working with no less than three of the following is required:
      • Windows 2000/XP Professional clients
      • Citrix Metaframe XPe ICA and/or web clients
      • Working in a helpdesk environment
      • Microsoft System Admin/Engineer
      • Network Admin/Engineer
      • Unix Amin/Engineer
      • Storage/Backup Admin/Engineer
